[Traveling to Greenland during the Corona Pandemic - 2]
Transit through Denmark
In order to get to the Kastrup / Copenhagen airport in Denmark, you of course have to transit through Denmark. That was no problem until last year. But with the corona pandemic, Denmark introduced strict entry restrictions, which were relaxed on June 15, 2020. If you want to enter Denmark as a tourist, you have to prove that you have booked at least 6 nights. Of course, this does not apply to transit travelers. But they have to prove the reason for the transit, in our case booking a flight from Copenhagen (Kastrup) to Greenland. And then you are obliged to go straight to the airport without delay. Information about transit regulations can be obtained from the Danish police at:
https://politi.dk/coronavirus-i-danmark/rejser/for-transitrejsende
Since the departure time from Kastrup to Kangerlussuaq (Greenland) is usually at 9:00 a.m. and you should be there earlier, it is practically not possible to arrive there on the day of departure. So it will be difficult to avoid spending a few hours in the airport waiting room the night before departure.
Entry to Greenland
When starting to Greenland, you must show to Air Greenland a certificate stating that you are not infected by Corona. This certificate must not be older than five days. Only corona tests from Nordic countries are accepted, i.e. not tests from other countries. The simplest thing is therefore to do this test in a test center at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. There is now such a test site right next to the airport in Copenhagen. But plan for the test at least one day before departure. By the way, I didn't pay anything myself for this test in Copenhagen, while the one from Berlin was very expensive and I could not use it.
You must also show your "Sumut" to Air Greenland in Copenhagen. The word "Sumut" is Greenlandic and means "where to". It must contain the date of your departure. If you for instance fly a day later cecause of a (new) corona-test, then you alsoneed a new "Sumut". You can order a Sumut in internet under
www.sumut2020.gl
or
www.nun.gl
.
By the way, even if you don't have a flexible flight ticket: In my experience, it is possible to postpone the flight date due to a corona test.
